Value Proposition ... Our Mission
Loftus IT is all about delivering expert information and communication technology (ICT) services and skills to Clients so that they can get on with business rather than worrying about their computer systems. We make service delivery our focus and spread that capability across a fairly wide range of ICT disciplines and technologies We think this clarity of purpose is important, especially to Clients who rely on us to design, implement and maintain their mission-critical ICT infrastructure. Essential Difference ... Our People and our skills The people we employ, particularly when working in teams, have the knowledge and experience to deal with the most diverse range of ICT projects and problems. Not only are they good technically, but we look for ... and nurture ... other essential skills such as a customer service, commercial 'savvy' and task management. Our staff are encouraged to develop their patience, persistence and professionalism ... and of course, to stay at the forefront of their technical competencies too. Loftus IT was an early entrant into the Linux and Open Source technology services market and this remains a core element of our server technology skills base. Linux has forged a place in the server market and will continue to grow in popularity - the involvement of major IT vendors like Novell, IBM, HP, Sun and Oracle will ensure that. From a technologist’s point of view, the greatest appeal of Linux ... and indeed all Open Source Software ... is the ability to 'control your destiny'. If something doesn't work, it can be fixed ... if you see a better way to do something, you can do it. The other great thing is that the technology evolves rapidly, continuously acquiring new features and methods as they become available. While we favour Linux as a server platform, many of our Clients are not in a position (yet) to make this their platform of choice. We actively maintain Microsoft server technology skills and can also work with a variety of other platforms, often to help clients with legacy systems. - Unix-related Platforms - Redhat Linux, SuSe Linux (Novell), Solaris and SCO; - Microsoft Platforms - Server, Terminal Server, Exchange Server, Workstation and related applications; - Software & Database Platforms - Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MYSQL, Java, J2EE, HTML, C, C++ and .NET framework; - Data Communications - Local and wide-area networks using TCP/IP, ISDN, frame relay, wireless and serial line multiplexing technologies; - Server Applications – intranet, email, firewall, directory services; Xen - Legacy Applications – PICK, serial data comms, IBM VM, IBM 3270 and associated application languages (eg Cobol) - Open Source applications The Journey So Far ... Our Heritage
One of the first tasks of the founding partners was to set out the principles upon which the business was to be conducted. These 5 statements of 'strategic intent' hold true to this day: 1. Loftus IT works within the framework of Clients' business needs and budget constraints. 2. Loftus IT delivers easy to use, consistent infrastructure solutions that minimise the cost of user support and system maintenance. 3. Loftus IT selects solutions with a sound knowledge of current technologies and the emerging technologies of tomorrow. 4. Loftus IT develops software for enhancing Open Source applications and integrating Linux with other system platforms. 5. Loftus IT services are independent of hardware and software vendors - our relationship with selected vendors is focused on skills development not sales. Oh ... and in case you were wondering, there isn't any particular meaning attached to the name 'Loftus' ... it just seemed like a good idea at the time. |
Loftus IT is the trading name of Loftus Computing Services Pty Ltd, a company formed in March 1994 by a small group of technology specialists who saw the commercial benefit of combining their skills and business aspirations.
